So it’s already the end of January…how are those New Year’s Resolutions doing?
Sadly, most of us have already forgotten our self-promises by now.
It’s been said that it takes 21 days to make a new habit or break an old one. So many of us have a difficult time sticking to our goals to make it that long. Sometimes we only make it a few days before converting to our old patterns. Does this seem familiar? I know it does to me, I’ve been there. Sometimes, it seems like the harder we try to make changes, the more difficult it becomes.
How then, can you make real lasting changes so you are able to accomplish what you truly want for yourself without feeling like you’re paddling upstream in a hurricane?
The Secret lies in your mind. Your beliefs about reality keep you stuck in old patterns that are comfortable. Making change takes you out of your comfort zone and conflicting beliefs about what you deserve, will fight against you.
Within your conscious mind, is your EGO. The ego doesn’t care for change and it wants what it wants. Unfortunately, it’s never satisfied. When you try to make a change, the Ego can get stirred up and act like a 2 year old having a tantrum until you get what you want.
The subconscious mind, will reinforce whatever you’re focusing on. So when the
Ego acts up, the task may seem impossible. The Good News…it’s all an illusion and you can change it. Incidentally, the Ego level of our mind is also where our "Will Power" is. The Seemingly Impossible, Becomes Possible Today!
To quiet down the “spoiled” ego, take a moment to be present with that part of you that’s resisting. Breathe and listen to that inner voice. Then give it a new vision of what you are trying to change. (Remember, that ego is like a small child. This small child needs your love and reassurance.)
Activate the Power of Your Subconscious Mind with Your Imagination:
Put your hands over your heart and tell this small child, “I Love You. It’s going to be ok. It’s safe to make this change.”
Your Imagination is Powerful, the Language of Your Subconscious Mind Where All Your Habit Patterns Are Stored.
Create a picture in your mind of what you desire. For example, if your goal is to get healthy, drop 20 pounds and run that ½ marathon in June, create a picture of yourself doing just that. In your picture, imagine you are smiling and feeling happy, energetic. Imagine yourself surrounded by caring friends who are with you and cheering you on. Imagine yourself fitting easily into your ideal size jeans, feeling sexy, healthy and happy.
You must create a picture and a feeling that is so wonderful, it will help the ego mind to understand that any momentary discomfort will lead to feelings of extreme joy and aliveness. Breaking out of the comfort zone will be better than the illusion of comfort by staying stuck. Fueling Your New Vision With Past Accomplishments
As you reflect on your goals from last year, take time to pay special attention to what you accomplished, even the little things, and give yourself a moment of congratulations for what you’ve completed.
Next, think about, where did you fall short? Take time to recall what you set out to do for 2016 and then ask yourself, why didn’t do it, in those areas where you didn’t get yourself to move forward.
You may notice that the same thing or area has kept you stuck in years prior. Being really honest, is there a pattern here? If so, don’t you think it’s time to change that?
What Will Hold You Back in 2017?
The same fears and emotional blocks can keep us stuck in the same pattern, year after year. It’s really not your fault, so be easy with yourself, but, be honest. Love yourself anyway, even the parts that fell short, and make the decision to feel the discomfort and do it anyway!!! Your vision of your successful future will help you move through it and beyond.
Here's to Your Success!
Warmly,
